Common name

Description

Rhizome shortly creeping to procumbent, c. 3 mm in diameter; rhizome scales linear-attenuate in outline, margin subentire, up to 8 mm long, reddish-brown or pale brown. Fronds monomorphic, tufted, erect, softly herbaceous. Stipe 1-5 cm long, dark brown, glossy, glabrous or sparsely set with pale brown scales, up to 6 mm long, denser towards the base. Lamina pinnate to 2-pinnatifid with a pair of strongly developed basal pinna lobes, linear-lanceolate to oblong-elliptic in outline, 9-25 x 2.5-5.5 cm, glabrous; pinnae oblong-lanceolate in outline, base often lobed, apex pointed to rounded, margin entire or crenate, clearly inrolled; venetion free, apparent in dried material; rhachis not winged, dark brown, glabrous. Sori marginal; indusium continuous, entire to minutely erose.

hastata: spear-shaped; referring to the shape of the pinnae.

Habitat

Around base of boulders, in rock crevices, on rocks and under bushes on fynbos covered hillsides, on earth banks, on sandstone, in sun or light shade.
